Deer Rescue

The Underhill Jericho Fire Department received a call from a resident at 2 Brookside drive in Jericho reporting a deer trapped between two trees. The resident stated that they had contacted Fish and Wildlife three hours prior but had not received assistance. Squad 51 was dispatched non-emergent to evaluate the situation. Upon arrival, crews found a medium-sized doe struggling, unable to free itself. After assessing the scene and determining the need for specialized equipment, Engine 5 was requested to bring a battery-operated saw. While awaiting Engine 5’s arrival, Squad 51 personnel comforted and stabilized the deer to reduce its stress. Once Engine 5 arrived, crews used the battery-operated saw to cut the smaller of the two trees. With careful coordination, the tree was separated, and the deer was freed. The doe regained mobility within 5-6 minutes and ambulated away from the area without visible injuries. There were no hazards present, and all units cleared the scene without further incident.
