Burn Permits

Town of Underhill Burn Permit Website

There is a new website to obtain burn permits for the town of Underhill. This new feature was developed in collaboration with the Forest Fire Wardens and the town. For additional help, please reach out to the town's Forest Fire Wardens, Parker Ripley or Nate Goldman.

Homeowners Information Form

Are you an Underhill or Jericho resident? Help us help you by completing this homeowner information form (even if you're a renter). Complete and email to info@ujfd.org, or mail to the address listed on the form.

Reflective Address Signs

With a reflective address sign, the fire department can locate your home faster than without one. Please complete this form to purchase one.

Home Heating Safety Tips

  • Smoke and CO Detectors:  Ensure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors have fresh batteries and test them monthly. Have a family plan in place to evacuate your home in case of a fire. If windows are used as emergency exits in your home, practice using them in the event of a fire, and ensure they open easily.

  • Wood Ashes: When cleaning out wood ashes from fireplaces or stoves, place them in a metal container with a lid and store it well away from the house. Live embers in ashes can remain active for up to three days, and if placed in a cardboard box or paper bags, they could ignite and spread to other combustible materials.

  • Using a Kitchen Range as a Supplemental Heating Source: Never use a kitchen range or an oven as a supplemental heating source. If you use an electric heater, do not overload the circuit. If an extension cord is used, ensure it has the required rating to carry the load.

  • Frozen Pipes: Never thaw frozen water pipes with a blowtorch or other open flame. Instead, use hot water or a laboratory-tested device, such as a handheld dryer.

Water Sources

  • Hydrants: If there is a fire hydrant near your home, you can assist the fire department by keeping the hydrant clear of snow so that, in the event it is needed, it can be located. Never park a vehicle in front of a fire hydrant.

  • Ponds: If you have a vehicle-accessible pond, you may want to consider installing a dry hydrant. These aid our rural water supply efforts, and the UJFD will reimburse you for the cost of the strainer and coupling hardware.
